After graduating with a law degree from Makerere University in 2008, Semakadde began his legal career at Bowmans (A.F. Mpanga Advocates), one of Uganda’s most reputable law firms. However, his passion for societal transformation led him to co-found Legal Brains Trust, an organization dedicated to public interest litigation. Semakadde’s legal career is marked by his defense of controversial figures and causes. He has represented individuals like feminist academic Stella Nyanzi, who faced charges of cyber harassment and offensive communication against President Yoweri Museveni. His commitment to defending human rights and freedom of expression has earned him recognition as one of Uganda’s most outstanding public interest litigation lawyers12. Semakadde’s legal battles often intersect with political issues, making his transition to political advocacy a natural progression. His work has consistently challenged the status quo, advocating for democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
